Pounamu - Rere ki te kainga - Sail home
Dear friend, Kia Ora
This carving is called Rere ki te kainga which means to sail home.
It is made from Douglas Creek pounamu which is one of my favourite stones to work with. It is a very weighty peice of pounamu. This taonga depicts a large sail. This symbolises the duplicity of life where we can either be a leaf blown about by the wind of life or, we can become transformed into a 'Sail' and traverse life with the wind of the Wairu Tapu (Holy Spirit) within our sail who guides us homewards.
Thousands of years ago, the ancestors of Māori journeyed out of South-East Asia and into the Pacific. They sailed in waka (canoes), and were some of the world's greatest canoe builders, navigators, and mariners.
When we hoist the sail of wisdom and sail with the Wind of the Wairu Tapu, we will cross the ocean of inner obstacles that prevent our full potentials from unfolding.
This piece comes with an officially signed certificate of authenticity and has been registered in my database of work.
