Pou - Manawanui - Steadfast
Dear friend, Kia Ora
This simple taonga is named Manawanui which means steadfast. It is made from Douglass Creek pounamu.
It is based on a shape which is reminiscent of a pou or pillar. Such symbols represent great strength. It is a symbol of support. This can be metaphoric and refer to such things as, a person, a group, tribe, gathering or something that strongly supports a cause. It can also represent a territorial symbol, such as a mountain or landmark, representing that support.
Taonga such as this make a wonderful touch stone as their tactile surface is comforting to rub. Over time, when used in this way, the oils transferred onto this stone will gradually deepen the sheen, complexion, and lustre of this piece.
Each carving is handcrafted and is unique. The difference in each piece of stone makes these incredibly individualised.
