Ngakau Ngawari - Gentle Hearted
Dear friend, Kia Ora
This taonga has been named Ngakau Ngawari which means gentle hearted.
It is a boar tusk that has an inlayed cap of Douglas Creek Pounamu with layer of brass in between. It is a simple design that is intended to emphasise the natural beauty of these materials.
The boar tusk symbolises protection and great strength. At another level, a tusk is representative of leadership and mana. Not only do tusks play an important role in protecting self, offspring and territory, they are also used to dig for, and source, nourishment.
The three materials involved in this creation also represent three main aspects of our being. The physical, the mental/emotional and the spiritual. Therefore, it is communicating a sense of wholeness and wellbeing.
Douglas Creek pounamu is one of my favourites to work with. Pounamu is highly valued in Aotearoa as well as globally. In general, it represents high status, power and strength. It is a sign of mana.
The layer of brass forms a connection between the tusk and the stone. It represents the connection between physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.
